Spirit of America seeks an Accounting Assistant to join our team and help us achieve mission success. The Accounting Assistant’s primary function is to provide accounting support and manage general office duties. The Accounting Assistant position requires teamwork, discretion, judgment, flexibility, and personal responsibility. 

The Accounting Assistant will report to the Director of Finance and Administration and support the accounting and finance team. The position provides office administrative support functions to other Spirit of America staff as needed. This is a full-time position based in the Arlington, VA office.

All team members at Spirit of America must be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting 70%

  • Review and reconcile credit card entries.
  • Manage the accounts payable (AP) inbox.  
  • Enter new vendors and invoices into Sage Intacct.
  • Submit payments for processing.
  • Clear AP Aging with payments made.
  • Assist with the 1099 process.
  • Reconcile and manage employee reimbursements and reimbursables.
  • Send requests for monies owed to Spirit of America.
  • File invoices, schedules, and forms in cloud storage system.

Administration 20%

  • Check mail and open, record, and deposit donations.
  • Train new team members on Nexonia, the expense and credit card management tool.
  • Manage petty cash.

Other Duties as assigned 10%

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a mission driven and/or donor environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • High emotional intelligence and exceptional writing and oral communication skills. 

Salary and benefits
Spirit of America offers a competitive compensation at $50,000 to $65,000 and benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability and life insurance. This position also offers a 403b retirement account with up to 4% employer match. This position is considered non-exempt.
